Yellowstone’s fall colors were nothing short of stunning this year. In a wave that started on the peaks at higher elevation and worked its way down to Gardiner, cottonwoods, aspens, wild roses, willows, alders, currant, mountain ash and more adorned the hillsides like jewels. Knowing the beauty would be fleeting, I spent as much time as possible in the park and around Gardiner taking pictures. Some of my favorite places to photograph the colors are the Lamar Valley, Blacktail Plateau Drive, the Mammoth to Gardiner road, the backroads around Gardiner, Montana, and along the Yellowstone River on Highway 89.
