We recently encountered multiple sets of grizzly bear tracks on a hike in Yellowstone’s Lamar Valley. Here’s how we interpreted the signs they left behind.

We decided to climb out of the river corridor to give these bears as much space as possible, for their sake and ours! On the way, we found a bison carcass, completely scavenged down to the sinew and bones, explaining all the bear traffic. That’s the thing about Yellowstone, the animals rule the landscape, and you never know what you are going to encounter. It’s important to know how to travel safely in bear country!
